How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Small Business
Happy clients rarely leave reviews unless you ask at the right moment and make it easy. How to get more Google reviews without feeling pushy.
Reviews are often the first thing a new client sees, before your website and before your photos. Most happy clients would leave one; they just never think of it. Here is how to change that.
Ask at the happy moment
Ask when the client is clearly pleased: they are admiring the result in the mirror, thanking you at the till, or telling you they love the space. A simple line works:
"I'm so glad you like it. Would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? It really helps a small business like ours."
Make it take ten seconds
- A QR code at the counter and on the receipt that opens your review page directly.
- A short link in your follow-up text or email.
- One tap, no searching. Every extra step loses people.
Give them something specific to write about
Reviews that mention details persuade more than "great service". Clients write about what they felt:
- How they were greeted.
- How calm or beautiful the space was.
- A small surprise: a drink, a warm towel, a handwritten note.
- How the place smelled. You would be surprised how often "it smelled amazing" appears in reviews of salons, spas and rentals.
When the experience has a few memorable details, the review writes itself.
Reply to every review
Thank people by name and mention something from their visit. Reply to the occasional unhappy review calmly and offer to make it right. New clients read the replies as much as the reviews.
What not to do
- Don't offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. Google's rules don't allow it, and it can get reviews removed.
- Don't write reviews for yourself or ask family to.
- Don't ask everyone in one big blast. Steady, genuine reviews look more trustworthy.
Quick answers
How do I get more Google reviews? Ask at the moment the client is happiest, make it one tap with a QR code or link, and give them a memorable experience worth describing.
Can I offer a discount for a Google review? No. Google does not allow incentives for reviews. Ask politely and make it easy instead.
What do clients mention most in good reviews? How they were treated and how the space felt: the welcome, the calm, the small touches, and often the scent.
Where can I get a signature scent for my space? See our scent for business page, or start with a reed diffuser at reception.
Our signature scent: Thé Blanc, white tea, ginger and soft musk. It is the scent most guests ask about first, and the one we suggest when you are not sure where to begin.
