Wedding and Event Scenting: How to Make a Venue Smell Unforgettable
Guests forget the napkins but remember how a room made them feel. How to choose a scent for a wedding or event, how much you need, and how to run it on the day.
Scent is the detail guests do not plan to remember and never forget. Years later, a smell can bring back a whole evening. That makes it one of the most powerful (and least expensive) details you can add to a wedding or event.
Choose a scent that matches the mood
- Romantic and elegant: rose, jasmine and orange blossom over vanilla and tonka. Try Velours Rose.
- Fresh and airy (garden or daytime events): citrus, white florals and water notes. Try Grand Foyer.
- Warm and evening (winter, candlelit venues): sandalwood, amber and soft leather. Try Santal Vellum.
Pick one signature scent for the whole event, so the entrance, the dinner room and the lounge all feel connected.
Reed diffusers or a scent machine?
- Reed diffusers are perfect for washrooms, the welcome table and small rooms. Set them out a day ahead so the scent is settled.
- A scent machine is the way to scent a ballroom, a tent or an open venue. A nebulizing (cold-air) machine turns fragrance concentrate into a fine mist, so you can scent a large space evenly and control the strength.
How much do you need?
For a one-day event, a 120 ml bottle runs a small machine comfortably. For a large venue, several machines, or a weekend of events, choose 500 ml. See Which Size of Fragrance Oil Should You Buy.
On the day
- Start the scent an hour before guests arrive, so the room is ready.
- Keep it lighter near food and the head table.
- Place machines near where air moves, at the entrance or by a return vent, not in a corner.
- Check with the venue first. Some have their own rules.
A keepsake that lasts
Many couples take the same scent home in a reed diffuser, so their home smells like the day. It also makes a lovely gift for parents and the wedding party.
Quick answers
Should you scent a wedding venue? Yes, lightly. One signature scent at the entrance and in shared spaces makes the day memorable.
What is the best scent for a wedding? A soft, romantic scent such as rose and jasmine over vanilla, or a fresh citrus and white floral scent for daytime.
How much fragrance concentrate do I need for an event? About 120 ml for a small one-day event with one machine; 500 ml for large venues or several machines.
Our signature scent: Thé Blanc, white tea, ginger and soft musk. It is the scent most guests ask about first, and the one we suggest when you are not sure where to begin.
