Which Hotel Scent Is Right for Your Home? A Simple Guide to Six Hotel-Inspired Fragrances

Fresh, floral, woody or warm? A simple guide to six hotel-inspired scents and which room each one belongs in.

Every great hotel has a signature scent, and most of them fall into one of a few families: fresh and clean, soft floral, woody, or warm and amber. Here's a quick way to work out which one belongs in your home.

Start with one question: how do you want the room to feel?

• Grand Foyer: bright, polished, "just arrived". Bergamot, lemon, white jasmine, water lily, soft amber, white musk.
• Thé Blanc: clean, calm, fresh sheets. White tea, aloe, ginger, cedar, vanilla.
• Velours Rose: soft, romantic, a little floral. Mandarin, rose, jasmine, orange blossom, tonka.
• Ambre Safran: warm, glowing, evening. Bergamot, jasmine, orchid, ambergris, sandalwood, cedar.
• Santal Vellum: grounded, quiet, a hotel bar or library. Sandalwood, cardamom, iris, leather, cedar.
• Cèdre Noir: dark, smoky, a private club. Cedar, cardamom, leather, vetiver.

Match the scent to the room

• Entryway and living room: Grand Foyer or Thé Blanc. These are the "first impression" scents, fresh enough for daytime and never heavy.
• Bedroom: Thé Blanc or Velours Rose. They're soft and calm, and they don't compete with sleep.
• Bathroom: Thé Blanc or Grand Foyer. Clean scents make a small space feel bigger.
• Dining room and evenings: Ambre Safran or Santal Vellum. They're warm enough to feel cosy without clashing with food.
• Home office or den: Santal Vellum or Cèdre Noir. Woody and focused.

Think about the season

Fresh scents (Grand Foyer, Thé Blanc) feel right from spring through early fall. As the windows close in autumn, many people move to the warmer side: Ambre Safran, Santal Vellum or Cèdre Noir. Keeping one fresh and one warm scent and switching twice a year is an easy way to make your home feel different with the seasons.
