How Much Scent Diffuser Oil Does a Business Use Per Month?

A simple way to estimate how much cold-air diffuser oil your salon, office, gym or hotel will use each month, so you can order the right amount and never run out.

Running out of scent oil is the most common problem businesses have with scent machines. The fix is simple: estimate your monthly use once, then order to match.

The simple formula

Oil per month = oil per hour × hours per day × days open per month

1. Oil per hour: check your machine's manual or app. It depends on the model and the intensity setting.
2. Hours per day: most businesses run the machine only during opening hours, often on a timer.
3. Days per month: for example 26 for a business open six days a week.

An example

Say your machine uses 2 ml per hour on your chosen setting, runs 10 hours a day, 26 days a month:

2 × 10 × 26 = 520 ml per month

That business would order about a 500 ml bottle a month, or a 1 L bottle every two months. (This is an example: your machine's rate may be higher or lower.)

What changes how much you use

• Intensity setting: higher settings use more oil.
• Space size: larger spaces usually need a higher setting or more than one unit.
• HVAC airflow: units connected to ductwork spread scent further, and may use more.
• Season: some businesses turn the intensity up in winter when windows stay closed.
