How to Choose a Signature Wedding Scent for the Two of You
A signature wedding scent should feel like the two of you, suit your season and venue, and still be one you love in twenty years. Here is how to choose it.
Your wedding scent is not the perfume you wear. It is the scent of the day itself: the room you got ready in, the space where you said your vows, the evening you celebrated. Choose it with the same care as the flowers, because it will last far longer.
Start with how you want the day to feel
- Romantic and soft: Velours Rose (rose, jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla) or Vellum Amour (peach, mimosa, rose petals, sandalwood).
- Clean, calm and modern: Thé Blanc (white tea, aloe, cedarwood, soft musk).
- Bright and elegant: Grand Foyer (bergamot, white jasmine, water lily, soft amber).
- Warm and evening-formal: Santal Vellum (sandalwood, cardamom, iris, soft leather).
- Coastal or summer: L'Eau de Verre (lemon, jasmine, water lily, sea breeze, amber).
Match it to your season and venue
- Spring and summer, garden or waterside: lighter florals and fresh notes. L'Eau de Verre, Grand Foyer or Velours Rose.
- Autumn and winter, ballroom or historic venue: warmer woods and amber. Santal Vellum, Ambre Safran or Vellum Amour.
- Barn, estate or vineyard: something soft enough to sit alongside real flowers and food, such as Thé Blanc.
Test it together
- Order a few scents to try at home. The discovery set lets you live with three scents before you decide.
- Wear the room, not your wrist. Let a scent fill a room for a few days. A signature scent should still feel lovely on day three.
- Decide together. This is the scent of both of you; it should feel right to both.
Make sure it works with your flowers and your perfume
Fresh flowers already carry scent, especially lilies, gardenias and tuberose. Choose a wedding scent that complements them rather than competes: soft florals sit beautifully beside a rose bouquet, and clean tea notes work with almost any arrangement. If you wear perfume, keep your wedding scent softer and different enough that the two don't blur.
Keep it for life
Buy a little more than the day needs. A full-size reed diffuser for your first home and a 30 ml scent bottle saved for anniversaries mean you can step back into the day whenever you want.
Quick answers
What is a signature wedding scent? A single scent used throughout your wedding day, then kept so it brings the day back for years.
Should the wedding scent match my perfume? It doesn't need to. Keep it softer, and choose notes that sit happily alongside it.
What is the most popular wedding scent? Soft florals such as rose and orange blossom, and clean scents like white tea, are favourites because they feel romantic without overwhelming.
